Sociopranos
suffered almost total data loss mid May 2003. Rather than closing
down the site for good and letting down our regular membership it
was decided to rebuild, this was made possible with the help of
Sociopranos friends Laura and Alison. Sadly all posts and over 300
members details were lost. We are hoping to rebuild back to this
membership and higher. So, if you were a member please re-register
as we have no record of your details and are therefore unable to
contact you..
The
new
sociopranos forum is even better than the old php system as
it now has the addition of not only the stable real-time chatroom
members were crying out for, but also a calendar to enable members
to arrange meetings, photo album function, quote generator and more.
Joining is as simple as ever and as usual
the friendly team of moderators are at your disposal should you
be having any difficulties. It's still about a friendly atmosphere,
all there for academic (and at times non academic) discussion.
We
hope you enjoy the new forum and apologise for any inconvenience
but this was outwith our control.

| Sociopranos
was set up in it's original format in 2001 as a central meeting place
for a few students at Abertay University who were really into Sociology
and confused as to why the Uni had it's own Psychology Division Group,
yet no group existed for Sociology. So it was decided a group would
be started to somehow fill this gap. |

The quick answer is ANYONE. Obviously if you
have an interest in one of the areas Sociopranos covers (ie Sociology/Social
Psychology/Philosophy/eLearning) then you'll have all the more to
say and add. Failing this however we have included a 'General' section
where you can talk about anything at all. We feel this is also a good
way for members to mix and get to know one another away from academic
'talk'.
On the new improved Sociopranos we're aiming
at a 'global' forum. The reasons for this are simple, we believe this
leads to a wider understanding of social issues as well as bringing
greater diversity to the group overall. So it doesn't matter where
you're from, you're more than welcome to join (the only drawback of
this is that at present the forum is in english language).

| Again
you can talk about ANYTHING! You make the topics, so it's entirely
up to you. You can also reply to anything you see and find of interest.
This includes making suggestions and contributing ideas about the
site (if you have any). |

 |
| Sociopranos
doesn't have a set age limit, however due to the bulk of the topics
being related to social studies areas it's obviously aimed at those
people with an interest in these areas. |

 |
| Sociopranos
is a social take on the hit HBO series the Sopranos. Why? Well because
a particular lecturer at Abertay mentioned it in lectures now and
again and after seeing the show it was soon realised it held many
great social issues, all put together in a slick and clever format.
The social commentary in the show is very astute. If you haven't seen
it.... perhaps you should. |
