| Well
here it is, the proof that Guin is as lovely as we all think
she is! We were lucky enough to get her to answer some questions
for us and she graciously did so. We asked her some questions
which we thought her fans would like to know and we thought
if any of you have burning questions you'd like to ask Guin,
email us and well see what we can do. Anyway, have fun reading
them and check out the cool message to her fans. This questionaire
took place on 13th Jan 1999. |
M&M:
If you could have a conversation with any person, past or
present who would it be?
GT: I'd really like to talk to Selena, the late singer,
about her relationship with her father and what it was really
like to be her and what the relationship was about with the
woman who killed her. It is just what is on my mind at the
moment - been reading about her and wondering what the whole
story is. |
| M&M:
Who is your favourite author and what is the last book
you read?
GT: My favorite author is hard to say - I have different
moods, tastes, phases, etc. I love Gabriel Garcia Marquez
and contemporary writers like David Sedaris. I love Virginia
Woolf and Kafka and the works of cartoonist Lynda Barry.
A.M. Holmes is an amazing writer. So is Jeanette Winterson.
I could go on.
|
| M&M:
What three things would you like to accomplish by this time
next year?
GT: I'd like to write three scripts, star in three
movies, and read 52 books.
|
| M&M:
What is your favourite movie, movie actor/actress of all
time?
GT: You guys love the favorites and the absolutes,
don't you? I can't answer that way because my opinions and
whims change so frequently and so vehemently. I just recently
saw a film called "The Hairdresser's Husband".
It is a French film and one of the most beautiful films
I have ever seen. Let's say it is my favorite right now.
Actress - Lauren Bacall? Rita Hayworth? Susan Sarandon?
|
| M&M:
Whats the funniest thing thats happened to you since you
became famous?
GT: Wow. A lot of funny things have happened to me
since I allegedly became famous. The Taxicab Confessions
story? DO you know that one? Being intorduced on the Jack
Dogherty show as "Lesbian Sex Godddess Guinevere Turner"
and signing a riding crop for him? Signing a young lesbian's
breast?
|
| M&M:
What are you working on now?
GT: My script, American Psycho is going into production
(I have a small role in it as well), I am adapting a novel
called "Pinball" to the screen and finishing up
a script about pinup girl Bettie Page, auditioning a lot,
considering a few roles that have been offered to me by
independent gay films, hoping, wishing dreaming and sleeping
late.
|
| M&M:
Do you have any brothers or sisters and what do they and
you think of you being branded a 'lesbian icon'?
GT: I have five younger brothers and sisters and
I think they all would furrow their brows if you even said
"lesbian icon" to them. Well, except for my 23
year old sister who would just laugh and say "I don't
know - she is? What does that even mean, anyway?" They
are all my biggest fans, and in their eyes I am so much
more famous than I actually am. And the lesbian thing I
think they have taken in stride without missing beat, really.
They are great.
|
| M&M:
What do you like most/ least about yourself?
GT: I can talk my way into or out of anything, and
I can talk my way into or out of anything.
|
| M&M:
Do you think lesbian chic exists or is it merely a media
creation? (Max's thesis question ;o)
GT: Lesbian chic exists in that lesbians are kind
of in the media for the moment as something that is a hot
topic. It exists, yes, but it exists because it has been
created by the media. Hey - I thought you were going to
steer away from politically oriented questions. Hell, I'll
always be a lesbian and I will always be chic, so wherever
I go, it will exist.
|
M&M:
Where is your favourite place in the world? Why?
GT: There you go again with your favorites. I loved
Barcelona, but I was only there for 24 hours. I love New York
City because it feels the most like home to me, but then I
can become incredibly moved and relaxed on the beach at Malibu
in California. London is also dear to me, as is Brighton.
|
M&M:
If you could say something to your fans what would it be?
GT: To the fans - your support is inspirational, and
when I am feeling like I am just broke and silly and getting
nowhere, responses from fans - letters, e- mail, etc., are
uplifting because I remember that even if I'm not getting
rich playing Brad Pitt's girlfriend in some multi-million
dollar extravaganza, I am very concretely making a difference
in people's lives and that is very important to me.
|
M&M:
Who's your favourite singer/band?
GT: Hole, Liz Phair, Lauryn Hill, Belle & Sebastian,
Fat Boy Slim, the Beastie Boys, Wyclef Jean, A Tribe Called
Quest---- these are what I am listening to right now.
