Guinfo - Guin News Updates

Here at Guinfo you'll find up to date information about what Guin is working on at the moment as well as listing what's changed / been added here at guinturner.com. Items are listed chronologically newest to oldest.

October 2006:
Not much to tell:

It's been all too quiet on the Guin front, but she is mentioned briefly regarding the Itty Bitty Titty Committee at 247Gay.com. Website Film Threat also mention Guinevere regarding the Mainstream Kink award Notorious Bettie Page has won.

We may not be updating the site so much in the future (particularly over Jan / Feb 2007), unless people send us specific things they feel other fans want to know. Life is just too manic and the news sources we thought we had are also very busy it would seem. Sorry for any inconvenience.

August 2006:
Bettie Page UK Release and interview:

For those interested, The Notorious Bettie Page is now released in the UK (it opened yesterday, though not at all cinemas). Also Guin gets a brief mention in UK publication The Times, you can read it HERE.

July 2006 More:
Hung Shown At Vancouver Queer Film and Video Festival:

Another showing of Guins short film 'Hung', this news thanks to the lovely Sue. Hung will be shown, along with a film called 'Mom' at the Vancouver Queer Film Festival on Sat 19 Aug at 7pm (Cinemark Tinseltown). You can find out more and purchase tickets HERE. (Thanks Sue! xx)

July 2006 More:
New Orleans Film Fest Screens Bettie Page:

The Notorious Bettie Page is being shown at the New Orleans Film Festival which runs between 12-17 October 2006. The special screening of the film will take place on Tuesday night at 7:30 at the Canal Place Cinema.

July 2006 UPDATES:
The UK gets Hung and the site gets a revamp:

Those of you in the UK who want to see 'Hung' can catch it at numerous places as the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival has begun. Catch it at Glasgow Film Theatre 30 July, Filmhouse Edinburgh 31 July, Dublin Lesbian and Gay Film Festival 4 and 6 August, Watershed Bristol 20 August, Tyneside Cinema 3 September, Pictureville Bradford 5 and 6 September, Showroom Sheffield 9 September.
As regulars to the site will see, we've finally got around to finalising the code for the new site, it took many hours, but we think it neatens things up better than the previous design. We hope you like it. Lastly, on a bit of a negative note, Angela has her say on BloodRayne.

Jan 2006 UPDATES:
BloodRayne Gets Frosty Reception:

It's no surprise to video game fans (such as we are) that BloodRayne (based on the game of the same name) has had a rather frosty reception. Videogame films are generally very dire and if you add Uwe Boll into the mix, they're worse. On the upside (and of little surprise) is that the writing (done by Guin) is the one bright flame in an otherwise dull production. Whew!

Coverage for Bloodrayne mentioning Guin:
Seattle Post: What's So Funny About Blood and Sex?
Chicago Tribune: Movie Review BloodRayne
Screen Daily: BloodRayne Review

Thanks to Staci for pointing us to a video interview with Guin at Horror.About.com from the BloodRayne premiere. It's short but sweet as they say.

The Itty Bitty Titty Committee:
Guin in new film. A full length feature film about a High School graduate who finds herself after hooking up with some radical feminists inthe aforementioned IBTC. It stars Clea Duvall, Guin Turner, Leslie Grossman, Jane Lynch and Tammy Lyn Michaels. It's being Directed by Jamie Babbett. May 2nd 2005 UPDATES:
GuinTurner.com Ripped Off:

Ok so we were surfing the net when we come across a new guin site, cool we think... only to see it's essentially a cut and paste of our site...nice! Look.. we're kind souls, people generally say we're 'nice', so why steal? Why not email us and ASK if you can use our HARD work, we'd REALLY appreciate that. We're not naming names because frankly that's a little bitchy and childish, but since we haven't had a response to our email and the person is clearly a visitor here that's why I'm mentioning it. Do the right thing ok, a LOT of hours go into this site. 'Maddys' rant over.

Guin Not Asked Back For Season 3 of the L Word:

We're stunned.. and more than a little baffled by this news but in a recent interview for Lesbian News Guin was told about the L Word getting it's third season green light and her reply was... "Well, it's also just been confirmed to me that I am not being asked back to be on the writing staff of the 3rd season, for reasons unknown and unexplained to me, so that's a bummer." .. That IS a bummer! (thanks to Nea and Lynne for this info).

This article has Guin out and about in LA seeking out lesbians who look like those in the L-Word, not like the actresses but of the same stock as those portrayed in the show. Partly written in response to criticism on lesbian representation in the L Word and partly written as a tour guide to LA's gay girls scene, the article is both funny and informative. Thanks Sue!

SEPTEMBER 15th 2004 UPDATE:
Lots of mini snippets of Guin news thanks to Debbie!
News from Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival 2004
Taken from EXPRESS GAY NEWS www.expressgaynews.com
Laughter for the Ladies.
Actress and filmmaker Guinevere Turner was a suprise guest at Sunday's "ladies who Brunch" programme. Turner's short film "Hummer", opened the programme. She tried to comment on the film, though the most telling comment made by the droopy- eyed turner was that she'd been drinking champagne since 9 that morning.

More info on Guin at the Indianapolis film fest, and news that Guin may star in another film with Director Catherine Crouch !! Taken from Gayteens.org

Jim Verraros, star of the award-winning "Eating Out," and Guinevere Turner, star of "Hummer," are attending tonight's kickoff reception for the fourth Indianapolis LGBT Film Festival. The 7 p.m. reception is at Key Cinemas, 4044 S. Keystone Ave., home of the festival today through Sunday. They also plan to attend other showings this
weekend. Writer-director Catherine Crouch also will be in town for the festival. She's shooting a film starring Turner here and in Brookville in November. At 8:15 p.m. today, Turner ("Chasing Amy," "American Psycho") and Verraros, a finalist in the first season of "American Idol," will introduce their films, with a Q&A following the screenings. The 10-minute "Hummer" is about "a woman obsessed with details" who doesn't notice "the obvious" at a dinner party she throws for friends. "Eating Out," a comedy that picked up a $10,000 Levi's First Feature Award at the San Francisco International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival in June, is a sexual- identities shuffle, in which a guy in college pretends to date the gay best friend of a girl in order to get to her. The 28-year-old San Francisco festival is the oldest gay and lesbian film festival, drawing about 80,000 people annually.
