Word:
Metamora sounds like a fascinating film idea. How did it
come about?
CC: The film came to me just by sitting
around and watching old horror movies - films that deal
with people transforming into other things, and the excesses
and the fear of science. These films deal with many of the
issues that I am interested in looking at in my film.
Word: The title of the film - Metamora
- resonates in so many ways. How did you choose it?
CC: We initially wanted to call it Monster,
but then that title was taken first by Patty Jenkins. I
was really wedded to using the "M" word, and we
were thinking of shooting in southwest Indiana. And one
of the towns we were looking at is named Metamora. I also
kept thinking the title should be Latin because I wanted
it to have a Gothic feel. Metamora means "turning point"
plus "period of time" in Latin. It sounds a little
like "metamorphosis". So, it works in many ways.
It also has a feminine sound to it. A friend of mine asked
what the title of the movie was, and when I said Metamora
she went, "ooooooohh". And that was the response
I wanted.
Word: Guinevere, you are starring in Metamora.
What role are you playing?
GT: I am playing Kay, the bisexual who
breezes into town and gets into trouble with the monsters
- well, trouble meaning sex.
